Each entry in the Vesta cache is uniquely identified by an integer called its cache index. "Cache index" is often abbreviated to "ci", and in some cases just "index" (when "cache" would be redundant). These numbers are assigned sequentially by the cache daemon, so they're clustered near zero. If a cache entry is deleted by weeding, its cache index may be re-used in the future.
